Do nasty commenters spell the end of the anecdote in journalism?

We're always telling you to gather anecdotes from people to use in your stories, but there's a great post over at the washingtonpost.com's Story Lab suggesting that sources are becoming more reluctant to talk to reporters in part because they don't want to face nasty comments posted anonymously on newspaper sites.

I think everyone should have to attach their names to comments. This is a holdover from newspaper days, but it makes a lot of sense, and would clean things up considerably.
