The writers' sweatshop

If you scan any freelance writing job boards these days, you'll find an alarming trend of buyers looking for writers to produce "content" for websites, willing to pay $50 for, say, 50 stories, using the word "cat" many times, so it shows up in search engines.

I don't know how anyone makes any money at this, either the writer or the web publisher, but there sure seems to be a lot of listings, and apparently people are willing to write under these conditions. But who wants to read this stuff? I just came across this story on a career advice website, which seems like it was written under just these circumstances.
